ERM Certification and Verification Services (ERM CVS) has received full accreditation by the Center for Offshore Safety (COS) to conduct COS Safety and Environmental Management systems (SEMS) audits on behalf of operators in the Gulf of Mexico.
ERM CVS is one of the first companies operating in the region to become an accredited audit service provider (ASP). This will enable the company to offer an independent, third party service
to around 90 operators in the Gulf of Mexico, a requirement for operators as part of the SEMS 2
auditing period which runs from January 2014 until the end of 2016. All operators in the region
are required to submit 15% of their facilities as sample sites for accredited third party auditing
during this period.
“This is a milestone for ERM CVS and we are delighted to receive accreditation to do this work,”
commented the company’s Head of Certification Jeff Rose. “We were particularly active in this
area during the SEMS 1 period and were highly commended for our approach in the regulator’s
The company was singled out in SEMS 1 for two main reasons, he said: “Our approach focuses
on outcomes and performance which is important to clients who need to know that their safety
and environmental systems are aligned with core business objectives. Our auditors are also
chosen for their deep technical understanding – another factor which scores highly with our
clients – and with the regulator.”
In addition to SEMS, ERM CVS provides certification to such external standards as ISO 14001,
OHSAS 18001, ISO 50001 and Responsible Care Management Systems (RCMS). ERM CVS delivers
performance‐focused, third‐party assurance to clients in sectors such as oil and gas, mining,
healthcare and mainstream manufacturing. ERM CVS is part of the ERM Group, a global firm
providing environmental, health, safety, social and sustainability services.
