ERM CVS Completes second external assurance of GRI’s own GRI Standards reporting

Following the successful completion of the first assurance engagement on sustainability information in GRI’s 2014-15 annual report, ERM CVS was once again asked by GRI to assure the sustainability disclosures in its 2016-2017 (combined) annual report.

GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Standards are the world’s most widely used for sustainability reporting and disclosure. They enable businesses, governments, civil society and citizens to make better decisions based on information that matters. ERM’s 2017-18 sustainability report is published in accordance with the GRI Standards (Core Option).

GRI recommends external assurance of sustainability reports as it provides both report users and internal managers with increased confidence in the quality and completeness of sustainability performance data. Following a year when GRI was implementing the recommendations from the first assurance process, GRI’s Board of Directors recommended having its own sustainability report once again externally assured.

Commenting on the work, ERM CVS managing Partner Mick Jenkins said, “Securing this work for a second time was a great vote of confidence in our corporate assurance services and the value that clients derive from our iterative approach to report assurance”

Jennifer Iansen-Rogers, Head of Report Assurance at ERM CVS added: “Once again we were able to improve GRI’s confidence in the reliability of the published information which will be read by its stakeholders around the world. Our recommendations from this process will once again help GRI to improve its internal processes for future reporting, a value-adding element of assurance which is reflected in feedback from our other assurance clients.”

The scope of the limited assurance engagement covered selected material sustainability disclosures in the report and included an assessment of GRI’s data gathering processes and systems related to the assured information. ERM CVS’ assurance methodology is based on the International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE 3000).
